About Karen Gutfreund
Karen Gutfreund is an artist and a feminist/activist curator, born in Lexington, Kentucky and has lived between New York and California. ARTIST STATEMENT:
Depth, layer, texture, nuance, pattern, and foremost text–this is what always moves me. I’ve have had a love affair with words and have been collecting them for a decade from a daily email from dictionary.com. These rarely used, obscure words give such richness and seem magic. In both my curatorial practice and my own work, the focus has been on activist, social justice art on current polarizing, hard-hitting issues. This series and more in progress, focus on the inherent beauty and positivity that can surround us, if we let it. Glimmers of hope in hard times.
