About

One of an ongoing series of paintings of insignificant subject matter in chance, precarious arrangements; in this case, curls of paper on a dark blue/grey ground. The chance falling of these curls created a more complex but cohesive composition and the combination of light and the dark background created dramatic chiaroscuro and enhanced the internal dynamic of the paper curls. Freed from gravity by the dark background (and hence minimal shadows), their more aerial context

suggested the rolling of clouds, as if seen on time lapse film. Having listened to Phillip Glass’s Koyaanisqatsi whilst working on it, I decided the clouds had become a storm, in addition, that form is process and phenomena.
